Pasuvum Puliyum

Pasum Puliyum is a traditional Tamils' game. It is a strategic, dash board two players game like chess. The game is asymmetric in that one player controls three tigers and the opponent player controls up to 15 cows. Tigers 'Hunt' the cows while the cows attempt to block the tigers movement. This game is also called as aadu puli or puli aaddam.

How to Play

This is the traditional method to play the game. Traditionally 3 pulis(tigers) and 15 pasus(cows) are participated.

• The pieces must be put at the intersection of the board lines and the move should follow these lines
• Start the game with 3 pulis(tigers) are placed on the apex, and 2 in the inner place closest to the apex (In figure-blue circles)
• All the pasus(cows) start off the board
• The player controlling the pasus'(cows) moves first, by placing a pasu(cow) on to a free intersection on the board
• Then the puli's (tiger) turn. One puli(tiger) is then moved to an adjacent position along the lines that indicate the valid moves.
• Moves alternate between players
• A puli(tiger) captures a pasu(cow) by jumping over it to an adjacent free position
•  Pasu(cow) can't move until all 15 have been put on the board

The Proposed idea for Yarl Geek Challenge

When we went to project proposal round, we had three idea.

The 1st one is The Visitors Guiding System for a Hospital.


In Sri Lankan hospitals there is no proper guiding way to find a patient in a particular ward. For example, suppose your friend was admitted in a hospital, you don’t know which is his ward, so you visit the hospital and you have to search everywhere. Finally you couldn't find the ward and return home. And also the visiting time is very short. So the people spent most of the time by searching the ward. And also if you know the ward no, but you don’t know where it is located.


So our idea from this project is to solve such problems faced by visitors for a patient.

The idea is

1. Place some terminals in several locations of the entrance.
2. Search the patient’s ward no, bed no through his name/ address/ phone no and so on.
3. Suggest a way to reach that ward from the terminals’ location.


The next idea is Legal advisory system

Most of the Sri Lankan people have lack of awareness about legal systems. They have no ideas about the legal rules and regulations. Because, there are no sources or facilities to get the relevant information. The fee to meet a lawyer is also very expensive. Before meet a lawyer, the people want to get some ideas for their legal problems.

This problem intended to get this idea.

From our system give legal advises to the people particularly Land problems, Women and child abuse.

The last idea is Developing Pallankuzhi Game 

This is our traditional and most interesting game.This game is popular among the kids and old people. This game is encouraged for the kids to learn to count, to improve the eye-hand coordination and concentration while playing. But nowadays playing this game is very rare.

So we plan to develop pallankuzhi game.
